Overview
The Adventurer Voyage lets you explore the landscape, wildlife and atmosphere of Prince William Sound with an emphasis on more physical activities such as longer kayak excursions, hiking on glacial outcroppings or through undisturbed forest. The Sound’s bays, coves and quiet waterways are as endless as the mountain meadows and ridge lines, and this trip samples richly from these special places.
In addition to some energetic exploration, wildlife viewing, sightseeing, and visits to our favorite locations are also incorporated.
A moderate activity level is recommended and a sense of adventure is essential!

Can you actually kayak and hike on an Alaska cruise?
Most Alaska cruises treat "adventure" as standing on a deck with a cocktail watching a glacier in the distance. The Adventurer Cruise by Discovery Voyages is a different animal.
This 4 to 7 day voyage through Prince William Sound is built around physical activity—kayaking among icebergs at the face of tidewater glaciers, hiking across glacial outcroppings and through undisturbed old-growth rainforest, and exploring remote shorelines by zodiac that most people will never set foot on.
With only 12 guests aboard, the crew tailors each day to the group's energy and interests, and all the gear—kayaks, boots, rain gear, hiking poles—is included. You just show up ready to move.
Itinerary
Meet the Discovery staff for a private shuttle along the scenic Turnagain Arm en route to Whittier for a warm welcome aboard the Discovery. Enjoy lunch while sailing to our first excursion. Take a hike through lush rainforest vegetation and countless streams and ponds. Return to tasty appetizers with a glass of wine or beer, followed by a delicious dinner featuring local seafood, or an alternate for our non-fish lovers! Anchor in a secluded cove.
Mornings aboard the Discovery are relaxed with a hot, home-cooked breakfast. Sail through Knight Island and Dangerous Passage towards Icy Bay. Some of the Sound’s most frequent orca and humpback whale sightings are found along this route; keep your eyes peeled for dorsal fins. Then navigate through Nassau Fjord to the terminus of Chenega Glacier, a 200-foot wall of ice that topples giant, blue chunks into the sea. Hundreds of harbor seals make Icy Bay their summer home. Take a hike above the glacier; then enjoy a relaxing dinner while the Discovery travels to the evening anchorage.
Explore the southern end of Knight Island, a large island filled with undulating peaks, broad bays, and lush vegetation. The currents bring fresh seafood into the area which draws in whales, sea lions, and other marine life. After a kayak excursion, join the Discovery for lunch while we sail for northern Knight Island and a shore hike which reveals grand vistas of the Chugach Mountain range, followed by our evening anchorage.
The Discovery sails up a long Fjord to a tidewater glacier for a kayak excursion. Hundreds of harbor seals make the inlet their summer home using the floating ice as resting platforms and safe places for birthing. Enjoy a shore hike which takes you up the hill adjacent to the glacier to a tremendous view. A fine evening meal is served while sailing to a quiet evening anchorage.
Take a hike between two bays that traverses a mountain meadow clothed in grandeur. Walk along dwarf spruce and alpine hemlock, through gardens of lush moss and delicate wildflowers. It is Prince William Sound at its finest. Meet up with the Discovery, and continue the journey to a an impressive, 300-foot-high waterfall. Anchor in Barry Arm for the evening.
Awake to some of the world’s most spectacular scenery—corridors of breathtaking beauty, sprawling glaciers, and a panoramic skyline of mountain grandeur. Harbor seals hauled out on the flotillas of icebergs watch closely as the Discovery navigates the icy, blue waters of Barry Arm. Kayak along the shores of Harriman Fjord, and enjoy a picnic lunch prior to a hike up the surrounding hills for a matchless view of Mount Muir, Mount Gilbert, and Mount Gannet. Lunch is served while taking in the final sights of Passage Canal prior to docking in Whittier and meeting your private shuttle to Anchorage. Overnight in Anchorage (included).

Voyage on a 3 day/2 night cruise in Prince William Sound. Guests will be accompanied by professional photographer, naturalist and geologist, Hugh Rose, and enjoy all of the activites that a water based trip includes —- hiking, kayaking, wildlife viewing, glaciers and more. Overnight in Anchorage, then fly to Cordova on the afternoon of July 14 (included). From here, enjoy activities based in a town on the eastern part of Prince William Sound that is only accessible by boat or plane. Flightseeing glaciers, rafting the Alaganik River, kayaking around towering icebergs in a glacial lake, or brown bear viewing by boat, are amongst the planned activities. Interested in fishing?
